Meet Garcianne Smith, the founder of Definition Of Peace cic(D.O.P) and a strong advocate for Black maternal health. Garcianne uses her voice to speak up for many mothers and inspire them to adopt healthy lifestyles for themselves and their families.

 

As I reflect on my journey through single motherhood, I am reminded of the daunting, yet transformative path I have walked. My story isn't one born out of ease, but rather a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the unwavering pursuit of peace amidst the storms. Becoming a single mother was never a part of the plan I had envisioned for my life. However, life often takes unexpected turns. I found myself standing at the crossroads of uncertainty, without the family support . The weight of responsibilities felt overwhelming, and self-doubt and guilt echoed through my days and nights. There were moments when I questioned my strength, moments when the weight of financial burdens threatened to suffocate any semblance of hope. Balancing time between work and the loving care of my child became an intricate dance, where every step carried the weight of a thousand worries. During these challenges, a flame of determination flickered within me. I refused to let circumstances define me or dictate the course of my life. It was during these moments of struggle that I realised the immense power that exists within a single mother—the strength to endure, the capacity to adapt, and the unyielding love for our children that fuels our resolve. Despite the adversities, I persevered. I managed my time meticulously, juggled finances with unwavering precision, and held onto the belief that a brighter tomorrow awaited us. It was in these moments of turmoil that the seeds of "Definition of Peace cic" were sown. The creation of this organisation isn't merely a professional endeavour; it's deeply personal. It's born from my experiences, my battles, and the nights when hope was the only beacon guiding me forward. The aim isn't just to build a company but to extend a hand to other single mothers who, like me, have felt the weight of guilt, the struggle for balance, and the yearning for a community that understands. "Definition of Peace cic" is the embodiment of my commitment—to stand as a pillar of support, to provide resources and programs tailored to the needs of single mothers, and to foster a community where no mother walks alone in her journey. It's about empowering these incredible women to redefine their peace, reclaim their strength, and believe in the limitless possibilities that await them. Through my story, I aim to extend hope, a testament that even in the darkest of times, peace can be found, and empowerment can flourish.
